Firebug
Here is a story that promotes one of our own, one who reviles the constant flow of statistical bilge from ASH(spit), CRUK(spit) – who do not enter into this equation. Unfortunately, tobacco Control do-to a certain degree.
One of our members goes by the name of Juliette Tworsey, a pretty girl with a penchant for music. To that end she formed a group a while back that are quickly gaining a name for themselves over in the States. From their starting point in Chicago they are now based in Los Angeles.
They are pretty good too and can mix it up, or as Juliette says, “We're a rock band with elements of blues, folk, sometimes heavy, with tendencies to get psychedelic at times:-)
If you want to have a listen to their particular brand of music just hit this link folks:- http://www.firebugmusic.com/
From leading in bigger name bands Firebug have quickly risen up the musical ranks so that they have now become a major attraction at concerts.
Juliette has been a great help to f2c over the past couple of years as she has kept us in touch with anti smoking ‘moves’ in the States and has also managed to get us some contacts in the newspaper world over there
Juliette is a girl full of life, every day is a new challenge as she and the boys march relentlessly onward in the music world. However, she has one major gripe – the smoking ban! She said, ”it is ridiculous when playing in side that anything up to 70% of your audience are hanging around the exit doors, or even outside, because they can’t smoke indoors. In the States, when we do an outside gig it is fantastic as everyone stands together to enjoy the music – smokers & non smokers alike, the whole atmosphere just lights up!”
Since they became established Firebug have always hankered after coming over to England to play their music – 2010 is their year.
The good news is that Firebug are coming over here very, very soon folks. Here is a list of their tour dates:-

For a band that have not been oft heard outside of the States, appearing at Knebworth gives great credence to their music and growing reputation.
Have any f2c’ers in the London/Swindon/Knebworth areas the free time to go see Firebug? Juliette has assured me that freedom2choose T-shirts will be worn to promote the cause for, as Juliette says herself, “Tobacco Control are going too far when they interfere with peoples human rights. We never have a problem with smokers/non smokers but TC has created one!”
Too many bands are finding it difficult to get the playing time they need in our pubs & clubs for licensees can no longer afford live entertainment. The colossal drop in footfall has seen to that! Loss of footfall means loss of cash in tills, which in turn means breadline existences for thousands of our remaining pubs & clubs. Many of our top bands started on the pub/club circuit; they wouldn’t be now!
Juliette went on to say she thought, “England was a country of free speech and democracy where man respected the wishes of others and never set out to harm another – until I saw what your anti tobacco fanatics were doing. Now, they have gone too far and have all but killed democracy.”
A truer word has never been spoken Juliette and as Chairman of freedom2choose I wish you and the band, on behalf of all at f2c a most glorious and successful tour.
Go get ‘em girl!
