Absolutely true. Those devious and murderous imposters have incited smokers to deluge the government's new 'Your Freedom' website with comments. After all, we all know that smokers want increased restrictions rather than to go back to any time in the recent past when they could enjoy a smoke and a drink in comfort. According to Yougov.
Not for the first time, just as under McCarthyism, public voices are dismissed. We are tobacco industry puppets, rather than being tools of Communism. In this document for example, ASH Scotland all but accuses tobacco retailers of being 'useful idiots', repeating tobacco industry arguments that have been defeated in other areas where tobacco display bans have been shown to work flawlessly.
Back to the Freedom Site. See it for yourself. If you are interested in 'smoking' issues, there are plenty: unfortunately the word 'smoking' is missing from the tag 'cloud', but you can still use the search box. The Home Page shows a video of Nick Clegg expressing his gratitude for everyone's participation and saying that the smoking ban is not up for consideration, but don't let this put you off. Presently there are 241 topics under 'smoking ban', but there have been frequent mergers of topics so don't be surprised if the figure changes.
There is also an Early Day Motion requesting an amendment of the smoking ban from Brian Binley (EDM 406) and further suggesting that 'any changes to the smoking ban legislation thereafter should be made on the basis of evidence, fairness and proportionality' – worth supporting if you can talk your MP into it.
