Cigarette sales expected to rise following Irish ban on 10-packs
In this article from the Irish Independent on Sunday, experts predict that the Government's recent ban on 10-packs of cigarettes will actually encourage both adults and youths alike to smoke more, resulting in increased sales overall. As we have predicted here at F2C, official attempts to curb smoking will yet again be counter-productive, following similar trends elsewhere in Europe.

Thespians Affected By Smoking BanMartin McKeown
22nd May 2007.
This just in from our new Northern Ireland correspondent, Martin McKeown.
Welcome aboard Martin. Thanks for keeping an eye on N.I.
This sad tale concerns the affect of NI's smoking ban on a play. Despite a reasonable request to be allowed to smoke a cigarette on stage from the playwright, he was denied.
Can you imagine the slaughter in a crowded theatre! Heaven forfend!

Smirting in BelfastLoraine McGregor
14th May 2007.
Debs Arnott and her merry bunch of engineers will not be best pleased with this latest report from Belfast.
As 'smirting' hits Northern Ireland, the smoking ban is creating new smokers:-
'I've heard it said that some guys have even started smoking - so that they can chat up the girls!'
BANS DON'T WORK........ How many times do they have to be told?????

Re-proving The ProvenSteve Cross, Loraine McGregor
7th March 2007.
For a few years now the anti smoking brigade have been telling us that passive smoke is lethal and that it has been proven beyond doubt. Strange then that they still feel the need to spend charity money and public funding on proving it again.
A new research is to be undertaken in Northern Ireland to judge whether smoking increases in the home after the ban. If we believe them when they tell us that there is no safe level to this lethal substance surely a research to tell us there are now greater levels of something that has no safe level is a bit irrelevant....

F2C Letter Published by Irish Medical News12th January 2007.
Our Steve submitted a letter to Irish Medical Health in response to their article which we published on this site on 7th January. See
Luke Clancy Gets It Wrong
As a result, we were contacted by one of their editors this week and were delighted to be told that Steve's letter would be published online today and in hard copy on Monday. It is extremely encouraging to know that, at last, we are being noticed by he media, especially one in the Medical Field. This is not the only approach we have had by the media this week and we hope that things will now snowball. Congratulations to Steve for a job extremely well done and may there be many more like this to come in the near future. There is a facility to send your views to the right of the article so please feel free to do so.....

N.Ireland Want Ban Delayed3rd January 2007.
We hear very little from Northern Ireland folk and their views on the Smoking Ban which comes into force on 30th April, a month behind Wales. However, the Vintners Accociation for N.I. has spoken out, saying that they have still not received the final regulations. How are publicans supposed to be prepared when they have been told that the regulations will not be available until March?
Are there any visitors to this website who would like to take on the 'Head of State' job for N.I? If so, please contact Loraine at loraine@freedom2choose.co.uk
